The Baron

I am very fond of brunch. Sadly, theres not many decent brunch spots in Sydney's West, but thanks to The Baron, life...brunch is a little easier.

Although incredibly busy on weekends and weekday lunchtimes, the menu here at The Baron is what sets it apart from the other cafes nearby. Menu items like the Elvis slider - which has crunchy peanut butter, banana, double smoked bacon & aioli or the pulled pork roll are just a few dishes that puts this place up on a pedestal.

The interior is inviting, rustic and quirky and the people who work there are pretty young too  - ticking all the boxes of hipster cafe. Wood, polished concrete, vintage stools and signage gives this small space warmth and charm.

My boyfriend and I went very early on a Saturday morning in an effort to have some quality time before he jetted off Indonesia the following week. We decided to share the breakfast plate which consisted of black sesame crusted soft boiled eggs, smoked ham, avocado, cherry tomatoes, relish, kale & sourdough toast - a great assortment on a plate, it was light and delicious but the only downer is that the eggs were cold - along with everything else on the plate.

I had to get the Elvis slider (crunchy peanut butter, banana, bacon & aioli on a brioche roll. I have no words, it was pretty amazing. Also, there's a reason why it's that small, trust me - you only need to get one to understand.

Since I was still a little peckish, we decided to get the one of the specials that day which was the poached pear salad. It had homemade ricotta, walnuts, celery and cider dressing and to be honest - I didn't like it at all. I ended up picking out the celery and just eating the rest. The combination of flavours were just to weird for me that early in the morning.

Overall, The Baron is still a great brunch spot (they do dinner here too). The menu is simple and creative, changing according to seasonal produce but still keeping their signature dishes on board. Service can be a hit or miss, with some staff knowing everything about the menu and some not knowing what kind of muffins they have that day.
